Dr. Karina Ballester grew up surrounded by beloved family dogs and cats in Puerto Rico, sparking her lifelong passion for small animal veterinary medicine. She earned her veterinary degree from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007 and has completed advanced training through the University of Minnesota and North Carolina State University.
With over 19 years' experience, Dr. Ballester’s interests include internal medicine, senior pet care, and dentistry. She also enjoys mentoring newer veterinarians as they build their skills and confidence. Above all, she values forming lasting, trusting relationships with pets and their families.
Dr. Ballester lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband, Walter, and their young son. Their home includes Margarita, a Chihuahua puppy; Rosita, a 7-year-old Chihuahua; Carmen, an 11-year-old pit bull; and Vlad, a 4-year-old Maine Coon cat.
Outside of work, she enjoys traveling—especially for new cultural and culinary experiences—working out with her husband, and painting. She looks forward to meeting you and helping keep your pets healthy.
